hey, I'm Dr. Katie spruell
I still have a passion for orthopedics and utilize the knowledge and experience I have in both ortho and pelvic floor to better help my patients get to the root cause of their symptoms. I firmly believe it is NEVER TOO LATE to get help for your pain, and the symptoms that you are experiencing don't have to be your new "normal."
IT's NEVER TOO LATE...
I began my career as an Orthopedic Physical Therapist and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, but during my first pregnancy in 2019 my passion morphed into something more. After being told that my pelvic floor dysfunction was "normal," I knew there was a gap in women's care that needed to be addressed. I pursued more education and became a Herman and Wallace trained Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, as well as a Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist so that I could better serve those who were told their symptoms were "normal."
Katie earned her B.S. in Exercise Science from Belmont University, and then completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Belmont University.
She is a Herman and Wallace trained Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist (PCES), and certified in Dry Needling. She is also trained in McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis, Birthfit and SFMA.
Strength x Resilience
My experience in both specialities gives me a much broader perspective and enables me to assess for dysfunction throughout the entire kinetic chain. I don't believe in a one-size fits all approach. In fact, with the proper treatment plan I believe many of the prescribed orthopedic and pelvic floor surgeries can be avoided.
Without looking at the entire kinetic chain, full recovery is impossible.
After extensively studying the coordination of breath and the pelvic floor, I’ve discovered its significant impact on how we manage pressure in our bodies. I’ve found that dysfunction in this system is one of the leading causes of back, knee, and even shoulder pain!
The Pelvic Floor is a basket of muscles located in the pelvis and should be considered a part of the musculoskeletal system just as much as the shoulder or knee is. However, most therapists and even physicians know very little about it!
